Metro Series #4: Man with Pens

This one took me a while to finish, with a long break when I was almost finished, needing a good breather to find my inspiration again. As I keep saying, it’s quite hard to reproduce graphite accurately with my limited camera/computer technical skills, but this’ll have to do. Click on any of the images below to see a larger version and scroll through the gallery to view the progress from start to finish. I’m now well on my way with the preparatory stages of Metro Series #5, as yet untitled.

eta: I should also take this opportunity to add that I’ll be taking on a small number of commissions for portraits of people and pets, working from photos in a similar approach as this “Metro Series” (“black & white” graphite on paper). My technique is very meticulous and slow going, so I can only accept a handful of projects before the holidays, but would love to put my talents toward providing a unique gift to a loved one. Send me a quick message if you’re interested and we’ll take it from there. Thanks for sharing this post with your contacts as I’d rather work with friends of friends as opposed to complete strangers.

    beautiful work, Ilana

  2. Fascinating! I love getting these insights into how the final picture has developed and the incredible amount of detail they contain.

  3. Thanks Heather, glad you dropped by! :-)

  4. This is great! What kind of size is it?

    • Thank you so much! All the drawings in the series so far are appox 11 x 15″. I might take on a few larger ones if I can get myself to work a little faster.

  5. This is excellently done! I enjoyed looking at your work.

  6. Thank you Bethany, much appreciated.
